Concept Design – Centenary of Anzac

The project concept was first developed by Ross Coulter, well-known local Artist and a member of

the Emu Park RSL. Ross’s initial sketches are included in this proposal. His vision was for an

area of beauty, for many to use, but to have some links to our Anzac heritage and to create a

peaceful place for reflection and Ceremony to complement the current RSL Building. Ross’s
intent was to finish the project before the planned celebrations of the Centenary of Anzacs in

April 2015.

Ross made a presentation of his project to Rockhampton Regional Council in November 2011 which

was well supported. The project has strong support from the existing Council and from the

Councillors representing the proposed Livingstone Shire Council.

Unfortunately Ross passed away only a matter of days after his Presentation. Members of the Emu

Park RSL continued to develop Ross’s project. The members now have some long overdue support

from various sectors of the Community and there is now a groundswell of support for this project

and it is being championed by local businesses and community groups as it is seen as an

important step forward for Emu Park.

“Australia and France still have a strong bond, with a sisterhood relationship that stems back to World War 1. I am excited to see this project progress and will gladly come back to assist with support.”

Stephane Romatet,
French Ambassador to Australia
