The Centenary of Anzacs development fills the missing link in Emu Park’s foreshore between the iconic Singing Ship and the Surf Lifesaving Club.

The project entails beautification of the foreshore with an emphasis on pedestrian functionality and active recreation. It will enhance the open space adjacent to the existing RSL Clubhouse, fills the gap in the scenic coastline of Emu Park and supports the existing business activity of the Town Centre.

This project builds on the former redevelopment of the Town Centre of Emu Park, which established a charming Village atmosphere which underpins the existing small businesses, the open parklands and the many Seaside events centred on Bell Park. The theme of this development will reflect similar Architectural features to build a consistent attractive town centre and foreshore.

“Australia and France still have a strong bond, with a sisterhood relationship that stems back to World War 1. I am excited to see this project progress and will gladly come back to assist with support.”

Stephane Romatet,
French Ambassador to Australia
7th August 2013

There are wonderful synergies in this development with links to many key events in our Nation’s
development. The Singing Ship sculpture on the Headland was constructed in 1970 as a community monument to celebrate Cook’s voyage of the Discovery. The RSL clubhouse sits at the foot of the
headland as a reminder of our Anzac heritage and the project will be a critical component of the 2015 Centenary of Anzac commemorations. The steep rocky foreshore and tall Pines overlooking the Ocean evoke thoughts of Anzacs. Also within this project is a World War II lookout post, almost lost from memory, except for the careful records of Emu Park’s elder citizens. It overlooks the Keppel Islands, the peaceful home of the Woppaburra people for 1000’s of years.

This project will add to the value and recreational use of the beautiful diverse Foreshore of Emu Park. It will enhance Emu Park as a unique Seaside destination and build on the redevelopment work already undertaken in the Town Centre. It will provide a point of reflection and understanding of our recent History with links to Cook and 2 World Wars.
